Open Sosaria 0.3.0 Released

Since the last post, I’ve been deep in the dungeons of Sosaria and version 0.3.0 is now out with full dungeon feature parity!

You can now enter any dungeon from the overworld, explore all 10 levels deep, fight the original enemies with their classic (and often annoying) behaviors, use the full spell system, deal with traps and hidden doors, and complete the King’s quests by slaying specific monsters.

You can download the game at the itch.io or the GitHub page.

Dungeons Feature Parity Achieved

Dungeons are now fully playable. Highlights include:

  • 10-level deep dungeons with correct level progression (up and down ladders)
  • All original enemy types including those with special behaviors:
    • Thieves that steal your weakest non-equipped weapon
    • Gelatinous Cubes that disintegrate your equipped armor
    • Gremlins that steal half your food (beware!)
    • Mind Whippers with their intelligence-draining mental attacks
  • Hidden traps and hidden doors (use Inspect often!)
  • Rope & spikes to safely handle traps
  • Complete spellcasting system (Open, Unlock, Magic Missile, Ladder Up/Down, Blink, Create, Destroy, Kill, etc.) with intelligence-based failure chances
  • Faithful 1-tile-wide corridor rendering
  • The whole dungeon loop is there: enter, explore, fight, loot, complete objectives, and get out.

Where Things Are Now

The important part continues to be how everything connects:

  • You move across a continuous overworld
  • You enter towns and castles
  • You can get and complete quests
  • Encounters can happen
  • Enemies attack (including in dungeons!)
  • You attack back with weapons or spells
  • You can die… and resurrect to continue your adventure

Next steps are:

  • Finish the remaining overworld features (Time Machine and Space Shuttle)
  • Implement the space section / space combat
  • Add the final encounter with Mondain

Thank you for following the development of this project. It’s getting closer and closer to a full playthrough!
